The most important photos I make are those that tell your story. The photo above shows Tiffany as her Mom helps her getting ready, while her Dad waits quietly to take his youngest daughter to church for her wedding.

The best photographs are not always the most obvious photographs, or the photographs that exhibit what is generally accepted as technical excellence. The best photographs are evocative of a moment in time that otherwise goes unnoticed, and yet carries a significance that is only obvious with the passing of time.

I made this image as the Mother-of-the-Bride began her walk down the aisle at The Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul in Philadelphia. She is escorted by her son. He is careful to note her step as they enter together, taking care as, arm-in-arm, they begin the long walk on this very important day. The semi-silhouette adds to the atmosphere of the image. Like a memory, some photographs are not perfect at first glance. But upon reflection gain significance and become vital touchstones that measure our lives.

Jason made it up for the weekend. We did what we have always done…wandered around and made photographs. When Jason was 8 I picked up a camera with a serious notion, so in a very real way I owe any progress I have made as a photographer to him. My desire to document his life drove me to work hard and learn to make photographs. We spent many hours and many miles together, and this past weekend was no different.
