The Boys of Summer…

August 31, 2007

The Phillies are playing meaningful baseball on Labor Day weekend. The series sweep of The Mets was one of the coolest 4 games sets I have ever seen…each victory more improbable and glorious then the last. This weekend series with the Marlins will tell the tale. A letdown after the Mets killing might seem inevitable…but maybe not. If they can come out of Florida and into Hot ‘Lanta with two out of three then we may have something here.

No matter what, this is a very good team with some great players and for the first time since 1993 Philadelphia sports fans will be talking Phillies in September.

Last century that is:

What True Romantic can resist The Fairy Tale story of Princess Di? In hindsight the reality was less a fairy tale then we expected, but we all stumble, and we are all broken. In the end we do the best we can.

Fathers…Sons…and baseball

August 23, 2007

Went to the ballyard today (thanks Cliff), and it was a great day for a game. My Dad took me and my brother to our first Phillies game in 1966 at Connie Mack. I still remember the explosion of green grass as we walked up the runway into the park.

I took Jason to his first Phillies game in that magical year of 1993. We saw plenty of games that wonderful year, and played lots of ball as well. My son was a very very good baseball player and I cherish the memories of our hours in the summer sun playing ball. I don’t get to see Jason as often as I would like to, and my dad has been gone for many years. For me, Phillies baseball will always bring memories of my dad, and my son…especially on a  hot summer day.
